There are a lot of puzzles in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you might run into while exploring. The Gauntlet of Shar contains one of these, called the Silent Library.

Your job in the Silent Library involves clearing out the Justiciars and solving all the puzzles. However, you can’t rely on your magical powers as a magic barrier instantly puts your entire party under the Silence spell.

Where is the Silent Library located?

Underneath the Sanctum, one level beneath the Gauntlet of Shar’s first two trials is where you’ll find the Silent Library in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s through the door to the left of the final trial, the Faith-Leap Trial, right next to the broken elevator.

How to defeat enemies in the Silent Library

There are several Justiciar enemies inside the library, as well as a mysterious dark vortex called the ‘Librarian’ in the middle. The ‘Silent Aura’ of this librarian affects every corner of the room and negates the use of any magic.

The Justiciars can be tough to beat as they all have two potent spells in their arsenal. One is Shadow Step, a variant of Misty Step where they teleport through shadows, and the other is Extra Attack. All the pillars in the room also have traps in them. When these buttons are pressed, lightning will strike the space in front of the pillars.

Here’s how you clear this area in Baldur’s Gate 3:

1. Classes like the Rogue or the Fighter will be extremely useful here, so use them to clear out the Justiciars.
2. The main focus, however, is the Librarian, so you’ll need to keep the Justiciars engaged while you battle the latter. When you get to the Librarian, have your melee unit concentrate on them while the rest of your party works to minimize the Justiciar numbers.
3. The Librarian has a weak defense and is particularly vulnerable to radiation damage but resistant to damage from fire, cold, and poison.
4. You’ll be able to cast spells once more after the Silent Aura’s effects are gone. Now take out the remaining Justiciars until the room is clear.

How to find the solution to the Silent Library puzzle

Here’s how to solve the final piece of the Silent Library puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3:

1. The library has several bookshelves, all of which are booby-trapped. The book you need for the Silent Library’s puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3 is in the northeastern corner of the room. It’s on the bookshelf to the left of the stairs closest to the exit door. The book itself is titled ‘The Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger.’
2. Bring the book to the imposing iron doors at the bottom of the room. Enter the next chamber, which has several traps and vents, by picking the doors open with a lockpick.
3. To hear the riddle and receive the instruction to insert and place an object, choose the plaque in the room’s center. Drag and drop ‘The Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger’ from your inventory into the plaque to solve the ‘Riddle of the Night.’
4. The door to the next room of the Library will be open, and you can claim the Spear of Night and Dark Justiciar Helmet.
