Raphael in Baldur's Gate 3

There are a few ways in which you can get Legendary items early in Baldur’s Gate 3, and the Helldusk Armor is one that has a fairly simple workaround. Here is how you can get Raphael’s Helldusk Armor as early as Act 1.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players will first meet Raphael in Act 1, and he certainly makes a lasting impression. What you may not know, however, is that he is also holding on to some really strong armor that you can get earlier than you think

There are a few ways you can get hold of this Legendary armor in a normal playthrough, but one of them lets you get it before you even get to the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Here is how to get the Legendary Helldusk Armor early in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to get the Legendary Helldusk Armor in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 players can get the Legendary Helldusk Armor in Act 1 by knocking Raphael out while he’s in your camp

This method takes some planning and luck, but ultimately, you should be able to get Raphael’s Legendary armor after you meet him for the first time in Act 1. Here are the steps you need to follow if you want to get the Helldusk Armor early:

  1. Go North of the Blighted Village in Act 1.
  2. Head toward the destroyed bridge with only one member of your party.
  3. Raphael should appear here and initiate a conversation with you.
  4. Click on the ‘Party Select’ icon at the bottom left of the screen.
  5. Switch to the character who you left behind.
  6. Attack Raphael with a ranged attack.
  7. Head to the Mountain Pass and take a long rest.
  8. Cast silence over Raphael and knock him out.
  9. Activate Turn-Based mode.
  10. Loot the Helldusk Armor from Raphael.
The Blighted Village in Baldur's Gate 3
You can meet Raphael for the first time just outside of the Blighted Village.

Raphael will appear to you for the first time when you go toward the broken bridge near the Blighted Village that Goblins have taken over in Act 1. It’s very important here that you have someone in your party far enough away that they don’t get pulled into the cutscene with Raphael. This is how you can attack him.

Once you do, he will disappear. Then you can head toward the Mountain Pass either just below where you find Kith’rak Voss for the first time or near the Goblin Camp. Take a long rest, and Raphael will appear in your camp.

The second most important step that you must do is cast Silence on him. If you don’t do this, the cutscene will start and you will not have an opportunity to loot the armor from him. Make sure you knock him out, you won’t be able to kill him anyway but knocking him out gives you the time you need to loot him.

He will leave soon after you knock him out, so activating Turn-Based mode just gives you enough time to loot the armor from him before he disappears again.

What does the Legendary Helldusk Armor do in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Legendary Helldusk Armor in Baldur’s Gate 3 lets anyone who is wearing it gain proficiency with it, gives you fire damage resistance, and lets you burn your enemies

The Helldusk Armor in Baldur's Gate 3
Legendary Helldusk Armor has a lot of really strong stats.

Raphael’s Helldusk Armor is some of the strongest armor you can find in-game. It gives you three perks:

  • Helldusk Armor: You are considered Proficient with this armor while wearing it.
  • Infernal Retribution: When you succeed a Saving Throw, the caster receives Burning for three turns.
  • Prime Aegis of Fire: You have Resistance to Fire damage and cannot be Burned. You take three less damage from all sources.

Essentially, this means that your magic users can use heavy armor for a massive AC boost without losing the ability to cast spells. Not only that, but you get a bit of extra damage and cannot be burned.

It also gives you the ability to cast Fly, which will last for 10 turns and refresh with every long rest you take.
