In the Season 20 update, Apex Legends is set to introduce 120Hz for players on next-gen consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, there’s a concern among some players that this improvement might result in an aim assist nerf.

Apex LegendsSeason 20 will introduce several changes to improve the experience. This includes a major Ranked overhaul, Legend and armor upgrades, and more.

Despite the delayed implementation of features in Apex Legends such as cross-progression, which was introduced in 2023, devs have been working to ensure that console players receive comparable improvements to their PC counterparts.

Now, with the launch of Season 20, Respawn are addressing another long-standing request from next-gen console players by enabling 120Hz gameplay. However, there could be a potential drawback to this, as the aim assist for players on a console with a 120Hz refresh rate could be modified.

Apex Legends Season 20 aim assist adjustment

In an X post, Jens Salvesen, Apex Legends‘ Producer, shared that aim assist will be “adjusted” in order to “accommodate for differences in tick rate.”

However, in a Reddit post players pointed out that the increased frame rate will allow the game to “look smoother” making it “easier to see and react to enemy movements,” therefore “your actions [feel] faster and aiming feels smoother.”

“New meta of not using performance mode just dropped,” another user stated. However, another user simply remarked, “If its like pc, the frames more than make up for the lower aa value.”

Given several doubts on how a higher refresh rate should affect aim assist, a player explained: “Because the game gets overall easier at high framerates, they will be lowering aim assist strength for next gen consoles to compensate… they will be undoing the bonus aim assist that consoles have already received to make up for low framerate.”

At the moment Respawn haven’t shared what the exact aim assist changes will be, however, some players believe that it shouldn’t significantly impact the game’s experience.
