Call of Duty: Warzone 2 arrives on November 16 as a completely separate experience from the original, being connected to Modern Warfare 2 instead. Here’s what that means for the original Warzone including its downtime, progression, and Rebirth Island’s future.
Following the success of Black Ops 4’s Blackout and the battle royale genre as a whole, Infinity Ward launched Call of Duty: Warzone as an extension of Modern Warfare in March 2020. Warzone has been integrated with both Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard since, but that’s soon coming to an end.
With Modern Warfare 2 here, its Season 1 update brings a brand-new battle royale dubbed ‘Warzone 2.0,’ a sequel to the original Warzone and a completely separate experience. But what does that mean for Warzone Pacific after Season 5 concludes?
Here’s a breakdown of everything we know about what will happen to Warzone after Warzone 2 releases.
- Warzone servers go down after Warzone 2 releases
- What will Warzone be called after Warzone 2 releases?
- Will Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep be removed after Warzone 2 releases?
- Warzone Caldera player progression & inventories explained
- Will Warzone still be supported after Warzone 2 releases?
Warzone servers go down after Warzone 2 releases
Once Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 releases on November 16 alongside the DMZ mode, the original Warzone’s servers will temporarily go offline at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM GMT.
During this time, Raven Software will ensure Warzone 2 is running smoothly, then the original game’s servers will go back online on November 28 around 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT.
Once it’s back, players can “expect to access a standard Battle Royale Playlist.”
What will Warzone be called after Warzone 2 releases?
It’d be rather confusing if there were two separate games called Warzone at the same time, so the original game will be renamed “Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera” once its servers come back online.
“Following the relaunch, you will have two different Warzone games you can play: Warzone 2.0 and Warzone Caldera,” explained Activision.
Will Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep be removed after Warzone 2 releases?
Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep have been fan-favorite maps ever since their arrival, but Activision have confirmed that they’ll be removed once Warzone Caldera returns on November 28.
The devs didn’t explain why, they just said that the “Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep maps will not be present when Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera becomes available to play.”
But, they teased that small map fans can expect “exciting developments” in future Warzone 2 seasons. It’s been leaked that a Resurgence map is coming to Warzone 2 in 2023.
Warzone Caldera player progression & inventories explained
Once Warzone Caldera returns, you’ll be able to access and use everything you have unlocked throughout Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard’s seasons. You’ll still be able to level up and unlock anything you’ve missed, too.
The level cap will be raised to 2,500, allowing players to “reach all 23 Prestige Levels and earn all 12 Prestige Master Ribbons,” explained Sledgehammer Games. All of the Seasonal Challenges will be there to complete, and your level will persist across all three games.
However, none of it will transfer over to Warzone 2.0, as it’s a completely separate game. There is one exception though, your CoD Points will be transferable across all games as long as you’re on the same platform.
But, they said that “Warzone Caldera won’t have an in-game store,” so you might not be able to buy any more bundles.
Will Warzone still be supported after Warzone 2 releases?
Activision haven’t mentioned any support for Warzone Caldera after Warzone 2 releases, so it’s highly unlikely to receive any more updates after it returns on November 28.
Insider Tom Henderson said on September 9 that “it looks like original Warzone will continue to receive updates and DLC,” but Raven confirmed that Warzone Season 5 Reloaded was the “final major update for this era of Call of Duty: Warzone.”
