Pokemon Sleep is the latest Pokemon App on the market, built to keep running while you sleep. Some concerned users have pointed out that having an unsupervised app running with your phone plugged in could be a major fire hazard.

Pokemon Sleep launched on July 19, and fans of the franchise are already talking about it non-stop. While there are a lot of enthusiastic Pokemon trainers talking about its particularly engaging accessibility, a few also voiced their concerns.

Pokemon Sleep is an App that basically rewards you for sleeping. It enables you to track your sleep cycles and even record the sounds you make while you sleep. In the morning, when you wake up, you can befriend sleepy Pokemon depending on how well-rested you were during the night.

Some concerned community members have stated that the App directly contradicts the safety protocols that the Fire Department of New York recommends to avoid in-house fires. As this Pokemon Sleep user below stated, the recommended settings for the App could be a potential fire hazard.

Pokemon Sleep contradicts fire safety practices

Different Pokemon Sleep play styles aka “sleeping styles” encourage you to have your phone near your pillow or charging while sleeping. These are both considered direct violations of fire safety practices.

The concerned user that goes by TamashiiHiroka on Twitter stated that they are “not trying to freak anyone out,” only that they find it “a little ironic that a game that promotes health is also encouraging bad public health practices.”

The problem still resides in charging your phone, or having it near you when you sleep. As most tech users know, lithium-ion batteries in most smartphones tend to over-heat when App activity runs wild.

Many official agencies have warned about the dangers of this kind of battery and recommended proper use policies and safety measures. As many users have stated, Pokemon Sleep is an App that demands high battery usage. This would make the danger of overheating by charging the battery a very real issue.

We will keep you posted about further development on this topic. In the meantime, you can learn how to play Pokemon Sleep, or you can learn if it is possible to pair Pokemon Sleep with your Apple Watch.
