Niantic released a Special Research task for Pokemon Go trainers who couldn’t snatch a Master Ball during the Adventures Abound season, and players are wondering if the additional price is worth it.

Niantic introduced the iconic Master Ball in Pokemon Go in 2023, and players had a few chances to score the Master Ball for themselves. The latest chance was the 90-day period Research Task in the Adventures Abound season, but some players couldn’t finish their objectives on time.

To make up for this, Niantic released a paid Special Research task featuring the Master Ball where players who didn’t snatch it earlier, could finally get it. However, the community is not happy about the price, and some Reddit users discussed this in the Pokemon Go subreddit.

Pokemon Go player ‘wreckitrob1’ shared an important question regarding the Master Ball Special Research price: “Is $8 too much for a Masterball?” The community quickly jumped to comments and started sharing their thoughts on the price. “Yes. Too much,” replied one user.

Some shared less straightforward answers, as they think it’s entirely up to the player and their financial situation. “It’s all up to you. There are people who will pay more for a shot glass of alcohol on a Tuesday night,” said another player.

Angry users also shared their thoughts, and added that “every microtransaction in this game is a scam.” While others, trying to understand the situation, suggested that it’s worth it if players are trying to catch a rare Pokemon: “Only worth it if you’re dying for a Galarian Legendary Bird.”

Trying to see both sides of the discussion, user ‘thatscrispy’ said that “it could be cheaper.” The user also compared it to the amount of money spent on Raid Passes for the 60 Raid objective on the free Master Ball Research task, stating that “these challenges are easier, but come at a cost.”
