Overwatch 2 Season 6 marks the debut of Illari, the brand-new Support Hero set to shake up matches. Shortly after the new character arrived, an Overwatch 2 dev revealed a subtle detail about her appearance that fans might have missed.

The Invasion update has finally arrived and Overwatch 2 Season 6 is underway. Fans have been treated to a host of PvE missions, a new Battle Pass to work through, and even a reworked progression system that sees each character level up individually.

Arguably the most exciting arrival in Season 6 is the new Support Hero, Illari. This powerful healer has a unique playstyle that makes her an expert at keeping her team alive, while also capable of dealing big damage herself.

While most players are still getting used to Illari in Overwatch 2, a dev has revealed a minor feature that might have slipped under the radar.

In a post from his X account, Overwatch 2 Senior Character Artist, Rakan Khamash, said: “While playing ILLARI, step in the shadows and walk outside the sun in any map and see if you notice anything ‘interesting’. Started as a random idea I threw in one of our meetings and boom our incredible team made it happen!”

His message was accompanied by a short clip that shows that Illari has a “custom sun shader,” which illuminates her forehead and earrings whenever she steps out of sunlight and into the shade.

Overwatch 2’s newest Hero uses solar energy to power all of her abilities, especially her Captive Sun Ultimate which fires a large ball of light. However, this detail seems to hint that she uses stored energy to fuel her abilities when not in direct sunlight.

While this is a relatively small feature that has no impact on gameplay, many fans responded praising the devs for going the extra mile.

“These are the little details that you just really love about characters!” said one reply. “Thanks for speaking up, this is an awesome little detail.”

Illari has proven to be a popular addition to the roster so far in Overwatch 2 Season 6, but only time will tell where she’ll fit in the meta once she makes her Competitive debut.
