Goat Horns are some of the most fun items to use in Minecraft. While mostly playing the role of cosmetic amenities, these items do have some useful traits. Here’s everything you need to know about getting a Goat Horn in Minecraft.

Minecraft has tons of items suited to every type of player. Some players tend to build intricate houses while others tap into their artistic side by creating maps and paintings. Another way for players to showcase their creativity is through music. Traditionally, this has been done using the game’s age-old Noteblocks. However, that changed when the Wild Update added another potential instrument to the game, named the Goat Horn.

Goat Horns are immensely enjoyable items, even though their musical ability is vastly inferior to Noteblocks. They can be acquired in the game by using a variety of methods and can be used as tools in various scenarios.

Let’s find out more about Minecraft’s Goat Horn below.

Minecraft: How to obtain a Goat Horn

Minecraft’s Goat Horn can be acquired as a drop from an adult goat when it hits a solid block using its ramming ability. Adult goats can often choose random targets to ram as they’re roaming around their spawn area. If goats hit a naturally occurring solid block, like a tree or packed ice block, they have a chance to drop a single horn. Each adult goat can drop up to two Goat Horns.

Another method to obtain a Goat Horn is to search in places where they can spawn naturally. Thankfully, there’s only one structure where this item spawns: Pillager Outposts. All you need to do is reach the top platform of one of these structures and search the chest located there. Remember to equip armor, carry a ranged weapon and have a shield ready.

Each Pillager Outpost chest has a 50% chance of spawning with a Goat Horn in it. These structures are quite uncommon, but their generation entirely depends on the player’s Minecraft seed. Some Minecraft worlds spawn the player right beside a Pillager Outpost, while others don’t generate one for thousands of blocks around the world spawn point.

Types of Goat Horns in Minecraft

There are eight Goat Horn types in Minecraft. However, only four of them can be obtained using regular goats. When a goat is spawned or bred by the player, there is a 2% chance for a screaming/screamer goat to spawn. This rare goat variant is similar to a regular goat but emits screaming sounds as opposed to the bleating emitted by the latter.

Regular goats drop the following Goat Horn variants:

  • Ponder
  • Sing
  • Seek
  • Feel

Screaming goats drop the following Goat Horn variants:

  • Admire
  • Call
  • Yearn
  • Dream

How to use a Goat Horn in Minecraft

Goat Horns are ideally used to emit loud noises that are similar to the horns used by villager mobs at the beginning of a raid. However, every single one of them has a different sound. Therefore, it is up to the player to choose one depending on their situation.

One of the best uses of this horn in Minecraft is to attract, locate, or warn other players within an online server. The sound of the horn can be heard from as far as 256 blocks, but the render distance settings of the server can affect this ability.

Best place to get a Goat Horn in Minecraft

The following Minecraft biomes have the highest chance of spawning groups of goats:

  • Snowy Slopes
  • Jagged Peaks
  • Frozen Peaks

The mountainous biomes in Minecraft have the highest chance to spawn goats, so that is where you should go looking for a Goat Horn. They’re also great for obtaining natural blocks like ore blocks and packed ice that you might need to trigger a Goat Horn to drop.
