Xbox leak reveals future plans: Next-gen console, Series X & S refresh, new controller, more

A massive Microsoft leak revealed future plans for the Xbox brand, including the potential launch of a new next-gen console, Xbox Series X and S refresh, a new controller, and more. Here’s all we know about the leaked Xbox lineup so far.

Due to the ongoing Microsoft, Activision Blizzard, and US FTC case, one of the biggest Xbox leaks in history has occurred. Leaked documents granted fans access to several key details and plans for the gaming company’s future.

The leaks revealed a lot of important details about the Xbox brand’s future plans, including plans for a new next-gen console, refreshed versions of existing consoles, and an improved controller.

New Xbox console & controller products leaked

On September 19, several Microsft documents were leaked, exposing multiple products planned for release, such as a next-gen console, a gyro controller, and revamped designs for both Xbox Series X and Series S.

Leaked Xbox next-gen console

One of the most significant leaks that caught the attention of fans was Xbox’s next-gen console which the leak claims is set to launch in 2028, according to reports from the FTC vs. Microsoft case.

In terms of pricing, it’s currently too early to predict the cost of the upcoming Xbox console. The company’s next console leaked some of the specifications and features, allowing players to see its potential power, but it didn’t offer any indications about its potential price.

  • CPU: ARM64 / AMD Zen 6 x86 (Chiplet-style design)
  • GPU: Custom AMD GPU / AMD Navi 5
  • NPU: Machine learning silicon
  • Features: Next-gen DirectX Ray Tracing, Dynamic Global Illumination, ML Super Resolution, Micropolygon Rendering Optimization, Extensibility Model for Faster Iteration and Innovation

Leaked Xbox Series X & S refresh versions

The documents revealed another significant leak, indicating that refreshed versions of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles could be slated to arrive in late 2024.

Xbox Series X refresh

The refresh Xbox Series X refresh version codenamed “Brooklin” is set to feature a completely new design and will be exclusively digital, retaining the same $499 price point. Additionally, this console could boast increased internal storage space with 2TB available, and a USB-C front port, among other refinements.

Xbox Series S refresh

The Xbox Series S refresh codenamed “Ellewood,” is also set to boast a new design and offer several modifications. These include “more internal storage (1TB), faster Wi-Fi speed,” and following the footsteps of the XSX, it is expected to maintain its $299 price point.

Furthermore, both leaked console images state that the updated versions could include a “more immersive controller” and also provided a first look at the upgraded technologies and sustainability enhancements:

  • Wi-Fi 6E radio for better throughput, latency, and interference mitigation
  • BT 5.2 radio for improved accessory experiences
  • 6nm die shrink for improved efficiency
  • Reduced PSU power by 15%
  • New lower power standby mode is 20% of the current XSS standby mode
  • Increased use of PCR on housing to >30%
  • 100% recyclable packaging

New Xbox controller leaked

A new Xbox controller, internally codenamed “Sebile,” has also surfaced in the substantial Microsoft documents leak, which could include several improvements such as a replaceable and rechargeable battery, a new modular thumbstick, and an extended lifespan.

In terms of immersion features, the controller could boast precision haptic feedback, VCA haptics that also function as speakers, an accelerometer, quieter buttons, and thumbstick.
