WoW Ascension is a popular mod on a private server for Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft. But, how do you access this mod and play the game? Here’s all the information you need.

WoW Project Ascension was introduced back in 2016 and has grown considerably over the years. Now, this mod is based on the 3.3.5 WoW Client.

Although it has a lot of features from Blizzard’s MMORPG, what makes Project Ascension so unique is the fact that it’s completely classless, meaning you can select any skill in the game, irrespective of the class that you’re on.

So, what is WoW Ascension and how do you play it?

WoW Ascension explained

WoW Ascension is a modified version of World of Warcraft and is based on an older version of the game. Although it has some similarities to the original game, it is majorly different.

Unlike the MMORPG from Blizzard, the game has no classes whatsoever, meaning you can use the skills of a Sorcerer while playing as an Archer.

This unique skill combination is one of the major reasons why players are attracted to it. Although it’s quite popular, the game is available to PC players only.

How to download and play WoW Ascension

Here’s what you need to do to play the game:

  1. Head over to the official WoW Ascension website, and click on the “Play Now” button on the homepage.
  2. When you click the button, you will be prompted to download the client through which you will be able to access the game.
  3. After you’ve downloaded the client, you can either make an account from the website or you can do so from within the client itself.
  4. Wait for the game to install completely, and then log in with your account credentials to play the game.

Is WoW Ascension free-to-play?

Yes, WoW Ascension is completely free-to-play. While the game has in-game purchases, they’re completely cosmetic in nature, and will not affect your gameplay at all.

You can purchase items either from the in-game store with real money, or from the Auction House, using in-game currency.

All servers in WoW Ascension

There are two different servers that you will come across when you’re playing WoW Ascension, namely:

  • Thrall
  • Area 52

Thrall

This server follows a draft pick model. Although you don’t have the class-system rigidity in this server, you can’t select any skill that you want.

Instead, you’ll be presented with a group of skills, from which you can pick the one that suits your build the best.

Area 52

The only difference between the Thrall server and the Area 52 server in WoW Ascension is the fact that the latter offers you a free-pick option. With this option, you can pick any skill that you want.

The skills are not grouped up at all, making it easier to experiment with the different skills and abilities that are available in the game.

If you’ve never played WoW before, and you wish to experience Ascension, then it’s best if you start out with the Area 52 server, and once you get accustomed to the gameplay mechanics, you can shift to the Thrall server.

Both these servers feature a high-risk PvP mode, which is also something that is very unique to WoW Ascension. Once you enable the high-risk PvP mode, you can head out into the open world and engage other players in PvP combat.

If you manage to defeat them, you can loot their personal items and then either use or sell them to make some additional money in the game.

How to uninstall WoW Ascension

To uninstall WoW Ascension, here’s what you need to do:

  • On your Windows PC, press the Windows key and navigate to Control Panel.
  • From there click the “Uninstall a Program” option that’s located under Programs.
  • On the window that opens, look for Ascension and click on the Ascension button.

Overall, WoW Project Ascension is a very unique take on Blizzard’s World of Warcraft and has seen quite a number of players ever since its launch.
