Ryu Ga Gotoku has confirmed that the New Game + feature will be a part of the Master Vacation DLC, which is only available for the Deluxe and Ultimate editions, and fans aren’t happy about that.

Longtime Yakuza fans are always keen to remember the features that every game packs, like its crazy Side Stories, or the Karaoke mini-game. Ryu Ga Gotoku is always keen to fulfill all fans’ desires when it comes to adding content to the ever-expanding franchise.

The possibility to replay each game with early unlocks, known as the New Game + mode, has always been around the Yakuza games. But, it seems that this time around, the devs have taken a different turn with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Reddit user ‘iNomNomAwesome’ took their discontent to the gaming subreddit, and shared that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth “locks the New Game+ mode behind a Deluxe edition paywall.” As the game hasn’t been released yet, there is no official confirmation over if this DLC can even be bought separately.

A user took the advantage to compare the Yakuza’s NG+ paywall to the situation found within Fighting Games and their DLC: “Fighting games being a good example. Tekken 8 gives you 32 fighters with the base $70 game, but if you want 4 more it will cost you another $30.”

“Well that sounds bloody stupid,” added an angry commenter, and immediately after its comment was followed by a clarification response: “A guy in a suit did a lot of market research and figured he could rake his ideal end user over the coals the most this way… we shouldn’t confuse stupid for greed,” they added.

Fans of the Yakuza games are not happy about the Master Vacation DLC, and even suggested that players should stop buying the game: “Stop buying it then?  Why do people act like they have no choice but to buy this garbage.”

In between this backlash, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is coming out on January 26, and if you pre-order the Deluxe or Ultimate editions, you will be able to access its New Game+ mode.
