Nightingale is a game with a complex crafting system, that requires fine tuning before you can dominate it completely. But first, you gotta get your hands on some Essence, because you will need it for various activities related to crafting and upgrading.

What is Essence in Nightingale?

Essence traders sell recipes and items you would not find in your Respite Realm.

Essence is the main currency in Nightingale and can be used to purchase items and blueprints from the Essence Merchants. It is also used in crafting, repairing, and upgrading: From Realm Cards to high-tier items, you will need Essence for everything.

Essences come in Tiers distinguished by colors: Tier 0 (Essence Dust, Grey), Tier 1 (Green), Tier 2 (Blue), and Tier 3 (Purple).

Upgrading or repairing items requires the respective essence from the Tier the items belong to, for example, upgrading an item from Grey to Green will cost Tier 1 Essence. Repairing a Blue Item will require Tier 2 Essence, and so on.

How to farm Essence in Nightingale

Certain enemies drop Essence, so make sure you pick them up when they drop.

Farming Essence in Nightingale becomes harder the more you scale up on Tiers. The easiest way to farm Essence Dust (Tier 0) is by using a Sickle and harvesting plant fibers.

Any item in the game, from resources to equipment, can be turned into essence from its respective Tier by “Extracting.” To extract Essence follow the next steps:

Open your inventory by pressing B.
Select the item you want to extract from and right-click on it.
In the contextual menu select ‘extract.’
You will be prompted with a new menu to extract the essence from the items.
You can toggle the number of items you want to extract from this menu.

Best places to Farm Tier 1+ Essence

Dungeon rewards are often Essence Bundles, so keep an eye peeled for them.

The best places to Farm Tier 1 Essence (and superior) in Nightingale are Antiquarian Realms. Antiquarian Realms can be activated by using an Antiquarian Realm Card alongside a Biome Card in the Realm Card Machine.

Tier 1 Essences and Superior are harder to find, and you will need to explore Fae Dungeons to earn it. The best way to do so is to find “stray portals” inside dungeons and enter them, these will guide you to certain labyrinths and dungeons with “Essence Bundles.”

Inside Antiquarian Realms, you will find more dungeons, puzzles, and stray portals you can complete to earn more Essence. Depending on the Tier of the Realm you visit, you will find the corresponding Essence from said Tier.
