Pokemon Legends: Arceus was a breath of fresh air for the franchise, but there haven’t been any hints pointing toward a possible sequel since its launch. Fans are now wondering if they’ll ever see one at all.

Pokemon Legends Arceus introduced players to a completely new way of playing Pokemon games, with less focus on battles and Gyms and a lot to do through exploration and the study of Pokemon.

More than a year later, however, fans are wondering if they’ll ever see another Pokemon Legends game at all.

The possibility of another Pokemon Legends game

Reddit user Yamchii asked other fans what they thought about the possibility of another game in this fairly new series: “I have seen a lot of speculation, but I’m a bit unsure if there is actually a chance that we’ll get another legends Arceus game.”

While nobody could give a definitive answer, many fans are skeptical about the whole subject. “I think it’s a possibility. It was so successful that I don’t think Game Freak would just shelve the idea forever. Maybe it won’t happen soon but someday,” said one Reddit user.

Although Pokemon Legends: Arceus was the fastest-selling game of the franchise until Scarlet and Violet launched, it ended up selling less than 15 million units worldwide. In less than three months, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet surpassed those numbers with a whopping 20.61 million copies sold.

Some fans argue that this drop-off is enough reason not to pursue the making of a sequel.

At the same time, it’s true that mainline Pokemon games are dual-releases and benefit from collectors that look to have both versions of the game. Either way, most fans think sales are the most important factor for Game Freak and The Pokemon Company when making this kind of decision.

The future of the Pokemon franchise

Other fans have kept their hopes up and want to see another Pokemon Legends game in the near future. “I want a Legends Johto and a Unova game. That would be amazing,” stated one Reddit user.

Every Pokemon mainline game introduced a new generation of Pokemon and an entirely new region with special qualities and intricate lore that could be further explored in new storylines. Unova ranks high as one of the favorite regions and would be an interesting setting for a new Pokemon Legends game.

Other fans are also wondering if Game Freak will keep making remakes of classic entries in the franchise. The last one, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl sold a couple of thousand units more than Legends: Arceus, which can be considered a success.

While we wait for an official announcement, fans think we’ll see some interesting news during this year’s Pokemon Day, to be celebrated on February 27. Rumors indicate that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will receive some DLC, but plans for the rest of the franchise are kept under wraps.
