Sad Keanu easter egg in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 received numerous new features with Update 2.1 as evidenced by the lengthy patch notes. But one new addition that the notes didn’t mention was a faithful recreation of a classic meme featuring Keanu Reeves.

Cyberpunk 2077 received its last major update in the form of Update 2.1. It brought a slew of highly requested features to the dystopian RPG and also ironed out some bugs and glitches. The update can be seen as the culmination of the all hard work put in by the devs toward resurrecting the game.

Cyberpunk’s troubled history is well-documented and packed with performance issues, bizarre bugs, missing elements, and more. But with each update, it drew closer to the interactive, immersive, and engaging RPG fans were hoping for. Update 2.1 seemingly finishes the job by adding a fully functional metro system, as was promised in the 2018 E3 trailer.

NCART stations in the game are accessible following the latest update and players can freely board the metro and travel across the map. Besides taking in Night City’s views, there’s plenty to see inside the train wagons. The game’s diverse range of NPCs can be spotted interacting and some will occasionally approach V as well.

Even Johnny Silverhand, played by Keanu Reeves, takes a seat at the beginning of rides and eventually recreates an iconic meme. Known as ‘sad Keanu’, the meme was birthed after an image of Reeves eating a sandwich went viral. In it, the normally chipper actor looked a bit dejected, and just like that, ‘sad Keanu’ was coined.

Cyberpunk 2077‘s recreation of the meme is actually quite spot on. Silverhand sits with his back hunched and his head down just like Keanu did. The devs even managed to throw some origami birds into the frame as actual birds are extinct in Night City.

Fans online loved the easter egg with one user saying, “Ok, I am done, Cyberpunk Project Orion is in serious trouble, how can you top this?” Another user stated, “Oh my gosh, I didn’t notice the sandwich. Sorry Keanu, but this is hilarious!”

Cyberpunk 2077 has many other easter eggs like this, but the ‘sad Keanu’ reference is certainly among the best.
