The CS2 community remains concerned following multiple kill-cam clips in which players can barely see an opponent’s arm or weapon before dying without being able to react. Here’s everything you need to know about the new controversy surrounding CS2’s sub-tick rate servers.

After a long wait, Valve have released the new Counter-Strike 2 with big visual improvements and some new features that have pleased the entire community. However, one of these new changes, such as the sub-tick rate server system, has not been entirely well-received and generated quite a bit of controversy.

Since the launch of CS2, the community has been continuously posting kill-cam clips from a controversial perspective in which it appears that players die without being able to see their opponents, even though some of them are aiming toward the spot where opponents are peeking.

This is related to the implementation of the new CS2‘s sub-tick rate servers and the new mechanics that are seen to give a significant advantage to peekers.

The nearly ‘invisible’ problem of the sub-tick rate in CS2

As can be seen in both perspectives, the peeker has a significant advantage over the opposing player who is holding the same angle. In both videos, we can observe how the peeker can see the opponent completely and easily eliminate them, while in the victim’s perspective, they can barely see the peeker’s arm, followed by almost instant death.

Here’s another Annubis example but in Mid zone:

According to the opinions of many players, both casual and professional like the Ukrainian S1mple, considered by many experts to be the best in the world, posted on his X account that the new sub-tick rate server feels even worse than the 64-tick rate servers in CSGO. He also had a clear message for those who aspire to follow in his footsteps and become pro players in CS2.

S1mple recommends not playing CS2 yet and waiting for updates, but Valve has not yet mentioned what they plan to do with this feature, which gives a significant advantage to peekers. For now, players will have to adapt and change the game’s meta by taking more aggressive peeks and making use of this advantage.
