MW3 players sick of using same “boring” weapons in Ranked Play

Modern Warfare 3’s Ranked Play closely mimics the rules and restrictions of the CDL, but players are claiming that limited weapons on offer make the competitive mode “boring.”

Modern Warfare 3 Ranked Play arrived back in Season 1 Reloaded, finally giving players a fully-fledged competitive mode to grind. It asks them to compete in intense 4v4 matches, using the same regulations as the pros.

This means that games take place on the same handful of maps and modes, but it also extends to the weapons and Equipment that are eligible. Ranked Play loadouts exclude the majority of both MW3 and MW2’s guns in an effort to make matches as fair and balanced as possible.

In the February 13 update, all Sniper Rifles were banned in the mode, reducing the pool even further. Now, Modern Warfare 3 players are calling for more choice, claiming that the lack of options is making Ranked Play repetitive.

Responding to a post by Reddit user ‘Cockroach_One,’ a number of fans were growing frustrated as they felt as though they were being pushed towards using just one or two guns.

“Idk what they’re trying to do with ranked, it’s just an smg only mode now. 1 ar like 8 smgs and 1 pistol. No variety and pretty lame,” said one reply, before another added:

“A dozen SMGs but only the Rival 9 is even remotely competitive, and only on Rio or certain parts of Skidrow. Otherwise it is MCW vs MCW. The most boring ranked mode in a while.”

Meanwhile, others understood limiting the number of weapons in Modern Warfare 3 Ranked Play, but agreed that more rifles to challenge the MCW were needed.

“Just give [us] a couple more ARs and pistols for f**k’s sake,” argued one player, as another agreed: “It’s sad that ‘ranked’ is just MCW game modes and that’s supposed to be skillful. I don’t know, I might be old school but skill comes from dealing with a variety of situations, not just one.”

Since MW3 Ranked follows the CDL so closely, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any changes without the approval of the pros first. We’ll have to wait and see if more guns are made available in the future, with Season 2 Reloaded being the next major update.
