Modern Warfare 3 campaign allows players to choose their own path

Sledgehammer Games are introducing a fresh spin on the classic CoD campaign mode that will allow players to make decisions that influence the Modern Warfare 3 campaign, as they work their way through the cinematic story.

With a new Call of Duty title comes a brand-new campaign for Modern Warfare 3 players to sink their teeth into. The Modern Warfare 3 campaign is set to be a direct sequel to the story detailed in Modern Warfare 2 (2022).

While it’s safe to expect characters like Captain Price, Farah, and the teased Makarov to appear, the Modern Warfare 3 campaign will also be full of surprises. Sledgehammer Games have started to reveal new details about MW3 prior to its November 10, 2023, release date.

One of the major reveals indicates that players will have a say over how to play the campaign in Modern Warfare 3.

MW3 campaign to feature Open Combat missions

It seems the Modern Warfare 3 campaign will combine linear missions with what the devs are calling Open Combat Missions. While both are expected to bring the cinematic quality expected of a CoD campaign, Open Combat missions in Modern Warfare 3 will have players decide how to play.

For example, you can focus on a stealthy method of progression through the mission, or take on your task guns blazing. Depending on your choices, the Open Combat Missions will play out differently for each player.

Here’s what the devs had to say about the introduction of Open Combat Missions in Modern Warfare 3’s campaign: “Combat means making decisions; using different Loadouts and planning different paths through every operation across an involved and thrilling Campaign.”

Essentially, MW3 players can pick how to play the campaign and the mission will adapt and support the player’s style. Open Combat Missions will give players a diverse and unique gameplay experience shaped by their decisions, all while remaining ingrained in the same overarching story being told in MW3.
