Modern Warfare 2 offers players a free trial to test the multiplayer out before they purchase the full game, but there’s a catch that has left people outraged.

Activision have decided to bring yet another free trial to Modern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer, allowing those without the game to experience the title from September 13 to September 20.

Not only does it allow gamers who don’t play Call of Duty a chance to try it out, but it also lets Warzone players who don’t own MW2 a chance to enjoy multiplayer.

The free trial period could get new players to purchase the game. Even if they don’t purchase MW2, they may be more inclined to pick up Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty’s next premium release that lands on November 10, 2023.

Unfortunately, players have noticed that there’s a major catch in the fine print with the free trial for Modern Warfare 2, leaving them extremely disappointed.

Modern Warfare 2 free trial limit leaves players outraged

As stated in the fine print of the promotional image, the Modern Warfare 2 free trial only allows players to enjoy 2.5 hours of in-game time, which is the first time they have done this.

Many have expressed dissatisfaction with this in the comments of CharlieIntel‘s post highlighting the free trial.

TheGhostOfHope, a popular figure in the Call of Duty community, called the time limit an “odd feature.” Others also shared similar opinions, as one comment read “limited to 2.5 match hours – what a joke they are lol,” while another said, “only 2.5 hours what’s the point?”

Despite providing access to 12 maps and 11 modes, players clearly feel that the MW2 free trial is flawed with its short time limit. The trial is around for seven days, and clearly, players feel that 2.5 hours isn’t enough: “7 days for 2.5 hours total lmao.”

Perhaps the backlash will spark a response from the devs, but as the trial has already begun, it’s unlikely that anything will change. If you’re going to be playing MW2’s free trial this weekend, make sure you check out our guides on the best weapons to use.
