Fans of 2008’s original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 might be intrigued to know that a classic map is hiding in plain sight in one of the new game’s Ground War maps.

CoD fans have been treated to an unreal amount of nostalgia over the years as the respective devs for each game have brought back vintage maps and weapons and we already know that 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 will be getting this treatment too.

A “returning fan-favorite multiplayer map” will be making its mark in Modern Warfare 2 Season 1, although we don’t know which one yet. There is also talk of a greatest hits map pack arriving in the game at some point too.

Before all of that though, players can actually sink their teeth into throwback content now, as one of the OG Modern Warfare 2 maps is already playable in the reboot sequel.

We already know that Warzone 2’s Al Mazrah map is being used for Ground War maps in the newest Call of Duty title.

What many players don’t know though, is that the Taraq Ground War game mode contains a recreation of the iconic Rust map from MW2.

Although it’s not an exact carbon copy of the original map, it retains the majority of its identity, and popular CoD user ModernWarzone guided fans through a quick look at the historic spot.

It’s probably too early to say that this is a sign of things to come, but with the knowledge in place that we’re likely to see a ton of Modern Warfare map remakes, we could definitely see Rust return in some capacity.

Al Mazrah already contains Highrise, Terminal, Quarry, and MW3’s Dome map, so the foundations for a lot of this are already in place to transfer over to 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer.

Of course, we’ll have to see which maps Infinity Ward inserts into their latest shooter, and in the meantime, check out the easy way to destroy Cruise Missiles in MW2, and an update on the Tier 1 playlist options.
