Aydan crowns “best SMG” in Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play to replace meta Vaznev
Modern Warfare 2 guru Aydan ‘Aydan’ Conrad has revealed a deadly SMG that has dethroned the Vaznev-9k as the best close-range option that players can use in Ranked Play.
After Season 2 brought the Ranked Play mode to Modern Warfare 2, players were offered a more competitive experience as they attempt to use the best weapons in order to earn Ranked Play rewards.
The Vaznev-9k SMG has been an extremely competitive close-range option for Ranked Play in Modern Warfare 2, but Call of Duty expert Aydan has highlighted another weapon that has taken its place.
Aydan explained: “The Vaznev has been meta for quite some time, and I think other people want to see something else become the meta, and a lot of people have been using the MP7 recently.”
After testing the MP7, also known as the Vel 46 SMG, in Modern Warfare 2’s Ranked Play, Aydan was thoroughly impressed with its close-range capabilities as it allowed him to secure 32 kills. He then described the weapon as the “most fun SMG to use right now.”

- Muzzle: Bruen Pendulum
- Underbarrel: FSS Sharkfin 90
- Magazine: 30 Round Mag
- Stock: Demo RXT Stock
- Rear Grip: Schlager Soldier Grip
Aydan’s Ranked Play Vel 46 loadout uses the Demo RXT Stock to buff the crouch movement speed, sprint speed, and ADS speed, granting the weapon improved mobility during close-range battles. The 30 Round Mag grants enough ammo to secure multiple kills.
The Bruen Pendulum muzzle, Schlager Soldier grip, and FSS Sharkfin 90 underbarrel improve the weapon’s recoil control, handling, and aiming stability so that you can easily lock onto targets.
Aydan stated that the Vel 46 is “a lot better than the Vaznev.” He feels that the Vaznev-9k is better at medium-range because of its ability to beam enemies for a longer duration, but the Vel 46 is the “best SMG” in Ranked Play overall.
