Activision Publishing has announced a brand new initiative to bring esports to Call of Duty: Mobile.

In a press release, the company has announced the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2020 presented by Sony.

The tournament season will begin on April 30, 2020 for eligible Call of Duty: Mobile players, with a prize pool of over $1 million sponsored by Sony Mobile.

Activision, in collaboration with Sony Mobile Communications Inc. (“Sony Mobile”), today announced that the Call of Duty®: Mobile World Championship2020 Tournament presented by Sony, will kick-off online April 30. Eligible* Call of Duty: Mobile players ranked veteran or higher in Multiplayer will have the chance to compete to win exclusive Call of Duty: Mobile esports cosmetics and cash prizes. The tournament features more than $1 million in total prizes, sponsored by Sony Mobile.

“We are very excited to launch our highly-anticipated competitive tournament in Call of Duty: Mobile,” said Chris Plummer, vice president, mobile at Activision. “As the next-evolution in our fan-favorite Ranked Play, this tournament format gives eligible Call of Duty: Mobile players a chance to compete with players from around the world for cash and prizes.”

Here’s the two stages on how to qualify:

Stage 1:

The path to the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship global finals begins with four open online qualifiers. Each weekend from April 30th  – May 24th UTC, eligible* players ranked veteran or higher will have the chance to play to win Call of Duty: Mobile in-game rewards, and (for the best of the best) individually qualify for Stage 2.

  • How it works
    • For each of the four weekends, once you click “Sign Up” in game, the tournament will go live and the first ten ranked matches you play will earn you tournament points. Tournament points are based on individual wins and your current rank; the higher your rank the more points you receive for a win. If you reach 80 points within the first ten ranked matches in any weekend you qualify on to Stage 2. Players must compete on an eligible handset and may not use an external device or attachment of any kind that modifies the game’s controls (e.g. bluetooth controllers, wired controllers, mouse, keyboard, etc.) without the express consent of the Administration. Players may not compete using any desktop emulator. The Administration reserves the right to investigate any Player deemed in violation. Players who are found to be in violation may be disqualified from participating in any future Call of Duty® Mobile tournaments.
  • Stage 1 Rewards
    • Registration Reward
      • You’ll earn a Call of Duty: Mobile in-game reward for registering
    • Progression Rewards
      • You’ll continue to earn in-game rewards as you earn tournament points
    • Qualifiers to Stage 2
      • If you qualify to Stage 2 you will earn an additional in-game reward. Each week we will be giving away a new item so make sure to play each weekend.

STAGE 2 AND BEYOND…

Stage 2 will require you to form a team out of those players who qualified during Stage 1 and continue to play online matches. Check back as the tournament progresses for more detailed information about rules, cash prizes, and where/how to watch.
