Black Ops 5 placeholder logos Found In Black Ops Cold War

Black Ops 5 logos have been found in Black Ops Cold War, and the community has taken notice.

In a tweet by Twitter user CoDGhosts619, it has been pointed out that there are Black Ops 5 logos inside of Black Ops Cold War. In the images below, you can see that the logo “Black Ops V” can be seen in the message of the day and on the top right of the screen.

Additionally, you can also see that “BO5” logo is on the top left of all of the Wildcards in game as well.

What does this mean?

Simply put, it actually doesn’t mean anything. In the production stages of development, often there will be placeholder icons scattered around the builds of the game internally. In the case of Black Ops Cold War, this meant the placeholders would be simple Black Ops 5 icons, presumably used until the official logo and name was agreed upon.

We’ve reached out to Activision for a statement and have been told it’s a placeholder in-game kept in as a mistake. It has no significance for the future of the franchise.

Even with the news, it still isn’t confirmation that we won’t see another Black Ops installment from Treyarch. Only time will be able to tell that.

Was the game originally going to be called Black Ops 5?

Maybe. We will never know for certain from the outside. It very well could be at a point the game was called “Black Ops 5,” or it could be that it was agreed this would just be used as a placeholder name.

Normally, in the development cycle of a game like Call of Duty, several titles are pitched over the development span and agreed upon a few months or a year in advance to launch. The logo, branding, and marketing are all made by a specialized team and are then added to the core game.

It’s more surprising that this is the first time this has ever happened to a Call of Duty game in its final launch form. We may never see something like this slip through the cracks ever again.

If you’d like to see the logo in-game yourself, it appears the large Black Ops 5 logo has been removed in today’s update, but you can still see the “BO5” logo on the wildcards in-game.

Update: It appears console players may still be able to see the Black Ops 5 logo in the message of the day screen.
