Although we’ve had no updates on cross-platform, we have had details regarding the number of players we can expect in the lobbies.
Players are eagerly awaiting the release of Battlefield 2042, which is set to arrive on Friday, October 22, 2021, or for those who buy the Gold or Ultimate editions, Friday, October 15, 2021.
Before we get into the player count for Battlefield 2042, keep in mind that there will also be AI bots and differences between last-gen and next-gen consoles, which will, of course, impact the overall number of online players in the lobby.
Battlefield 2042 player count
As always, Battlefield 2042 will be pushing the limits when it comes to map scale and player count, with more players than ever battling it out on huge maps.
Next-gen player count
The next-gen Battlefield 2042 player count will be set at 128 players in a single match.
Due to the power of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X, players will be able to experience this unprecedented amount of players across huge scale maps, which will be the biggest scale for the player count in the franchise’s history.
Last-gen player count
The last-gen player count will cut the 128 players in half, as the power of both the PS4 and Xbox One will only be able to handle the 64 play count we have seen in previous titles.
This is still a great number of players and will most likely equate to a similar experience. However, the 128 players on next-gen will definitely be noticeable and something that fans of the franchise will definitely want to witness.
With the next-gen consoles still in short supply, especially the PS5, players will be reassured to know that the game will at least be getting a last-gen version, as there was a rumor suggesting the game would be exclusive to next-gen.
