Chamber of Strategy in Baldur's Gate 3

Getting to Ansur in Baldur’s Gate 3 means trying to pass all of the trials set before you, and for those of us who aren’t fond of chess, the Chamber of Strategy could be overwhelming. Thankfully, one player has a solution to easily solve it.

When you rescue The Duke of Ravengard in Baldur’s Gate 3, he tells you about the legendary dragon Ansur, who could help you save Baldur’s Gate from its grisly fate. But you need to pass three trials before you can get to him.

The Chamber of Strategy is one of the trials you need to pass to get to Ansur, and YouTuber ToyHouze revealed a way to pass it using only a Lightning spell. Instead of trying to checkmate the King in two moves, all you need to do is strike him.

Using something like Lightning Bolt, you can aim it at the King and break his armor, and this will give you the same result you need as moving the chess pieces to achieve a checkmate.

Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t make it immediately clear how to pass this one, and since it deals with having to play chess, it can be a little overwhelming for some players. But, if you inspect the King, you can see that he is vulnerable to Lightning damage.

This questline involves some interesting puzzles and a challenging boss fight, but it also reveals a lot of shocking details about Ansur’s fate and the true identity of the Emperor.

To get to Ansur and the trials, you need to get to the Dragon’s Sanctum. This will be marked on your map when you get the quest, but it can be a little tricky to find.

So, all you need to do is go to Wyrm’s Rock Fortress and enter the Prison. If you have not already, defeat the Flaming Fists in your way, and find a dead end with two Draconic torches on either side of the wall. This will be on the South side of the Prison, close to the entrance.

Light these torches with a Lighting damage spell or cantrip, and the wall will reveal a secret entrance to the Dragon’s Sanctum.

If you’ve been hoarding Arrows of Dragon Slaying, be aware that they will not work on Ansur. And, if you’re keen to find more secrets, make sure you know how to unlock the secret camp in Act 3 to rest up before you take on the fight against Ansur.
