Baldur’s Gate 3 players missed out on powerful summon because of overlooked detail

Us in Baldur's Gate 3

Us is one of Baldur’s Gate 3 players’ favorite summons, but it can be a little scary to look at. This is only true for your party, as one player discovered, as Us has a secret trick to hide itself from the world when you summon it.

You first come across Us in the Prologue of Baldur’s Gate 3. It becomes a nifty little companion throughout those first encounters, and then it seems to disappear. But, if you decide to save it, you can meet it again in Act 2 and get it as a summon

Walking brains aren’t exactly commonplace in Faerun, though, so some players have been hesitant to summon it at all. This doesn’t have to be the case, though, as no one but you will see it as an Intellect Devourer.

“I always thought that Chop referred to Us as a ‘kitty’ and a ‘bad kitty’ because Us was different from other intellect devourers, and when you see something with four legs, claws, and even though it might be a walking brain… why not call it ‘kitty,’ right?” ‘Equal-Judge8142’ posted on Reddit.

“Well, it was just after rescuing Us that I remembered her saying in Act 3 that should you summon her, she will appear outwardly to others as a kitty and only your party will see her true form,” the OP continued.

It’s an easy detail to miss, but Us actually disguises itself as a cat when you summon it around other people. This is only really mentioned in passing by the Intellect Devourer when you rescue it in Act 2, and since it never appears to you as a cat, it’s no surprise some players do miss or forget about this detail.

As mentioned, some players were hesitant to summon Us at all because they were not aware of the fact that people around them only see it as a cat. Players thought that summoning a brain to walk around with them may rouse some suspicion, and once they discovered this wasn’t the case, some summoned Us permanently.

Other players were slightly disappointed that you can’t choose which form Us appears in, however. “I wish you could have Us appear as a kitty to the player. If you could choose it would be cool,” one player commented.

This may be something you can do in future, though, as the devs are still working on adding additional content to the game. For now, just remember that you can have your own “cat” follow you around whenever you’d like, and it’s a pretty great battle partner.
