There aren’t many tadpoles to find in Baldur’s Gate 3, which is why players were shocked after discovering a secret shipment full of them while exploring Moonrise Towers.

Using Baldur’s Gate 3 tadpoles is one of the most risky choices to make, at least narrative-wise, while trying to fight Mind Flayers. However, those who accepted the parasite have to collect every tadpole to make their Illithid Powers grow stronger and get incredible skills.

While they are scarce, tadpoles are easy to locate since almost every elite follower of the Absolute is infected. That’s why fans were shocked to find a hidden scene during Act 2 that reveals a crate full of parasites that are meant to be sent to Baldur’s Gate city.

This crate is located at Moonrise Towers’ docks (X:70, X:187), a place that players need to sneak into to investigate a huge shipment of seemingly innocent boxes. If they manage to avoid the guards, they’ll find the cylindrical Zhentarim Shipping Crate that’s filled to the brim with tadpoles.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players discovered that finding the crate triggers a scene that shows companions’ true feelings about Illithid Powers. Fans then get to choose what to do with the shipment, but sadly, consuming the parasites isn’t an option.

“It’s annoying that you don’t get a bunch of them to actually use. And Astarion implies that they could have been modified. Hope the devs update it and restore whatever plans they had for it,” said a player. Others commented that despite not being able to use this huge amount of tadpoles was frustrating, they could still find two usable parasites in the shipment to boost their powers.

Some of the strongest builds in Baldur’s Gate 3 involve leveling up Illithid Powers, and even those who aren’t following an evil run can use them. Despite the constant reminders that using Tadpoles makes creatures more susceptible to becoming Mind Flayers, Larian Studios haven’t introduced a drastic consequence for doing so.

So that’s why players were shocked to find a crate full of Tadpoles in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you want to know more about Larian Studios’ RPG, you can check why you shouldn’t take any elevator during an Honor run, or how to get your Mage Hand to wield weapons.
