The level of detail players have discovered in Baldur’s Gate 3 means that they can easily go for hundreds of hours before noticing something for the first time. This has happened to one who discovered a whole new detail about Astarion.

Astarion’s story in Baldur’s Gate 3 hits an emotional note with a lot of players. It’s a deep look into the trauma someone has lived for 200 years, and given the choices you can make at the end, it’s proven to be poignant for many fans

When you reach Baldur’s Gate in Act 3, you have to get to Cazador’s Palace, which is where the climax for Astarion’s story is reached. After you have defeated his master, you can choose whether or not to help him Ascend or not.

If you do help him Ascend, one player has found an interesting detail that they had not noticed in 1000 hours of gameplay.

In a Reddit post titled “Just found out something about Ascended Astarion,” ‘GinshaBlue’ said, “He gets his reflection back. The amount of details in this game shocks me. 1000 hrs in and just found this randomly.”

The reason why this detail could be easily missed is because you only notice it if you see Astarion speaking to himself while ogling himself in a mirror. It’s not a massive story moment, but it was a detail that interested the OP nonetheless.

“Though I prefer Spawn, this gives Ascension a lot more points in my eyes, like he’s getting back a small piece of his humanity despite it all,” they explained.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players in the comments loved this moment too, saying that it added a positive note to the relatively dark tone of choosing Ascension for Astarion.

“Probably the only time AA made me feel something positive,” one player commented. “Seeing him be happy about his reflection made me tear up a bit because of that.”

Players have historically had mixed feelings about choosing to help Astarion Ascend, especially because it changes his character into a more evil version of what he was before. A detail like this, however, is something that has helped fans discover the more nuanced version of Ascended Astarion.
