When is Apex Legends coming to the Nintendo Switch?

Andrew Highton

Apex Legends is one of the world’s premiere battle royale experiences and it will soon be making its way to the Nintendo Switch. But when is the free-to-play behemoth expected to arrive on the leading handheld console in the world?

The battle royale market is ultra-competitive with so many top dogs and companies all vying for the top spot. You’ve got Fortnite, Warzone, Apex Legends, PUBG, Hyper Scape, and lots of other mini-variants that are jumping in too.

But Apex Legends can still hold its head high and consider itself an elite member of this relatively new genre. Respawn Entertainment is trying to expand its audience and appeal to a wider demographic by launching Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch – just like Fortnite.

But how soon can we expect to be boosting around in the palm of our hands?

Apex Legends release date on Nintendo Switch

Now into its eighth season and still retaining a large portion of its fanbase, Apex Legends continues to grow and make its interpretation of battle royale must-play. The game has had a healthy run across the major platforms, and now it awaits its release on the Nintendo Switch.

The announcement of the game’s additional platform came all the way back in mid-June 2020 at EA Play Live. It was expected to become available in late-2020, but due to the unforeseen circumstances that have taken place in the year, Apex’s newest release has been delayed.

A recent statement from Chad Grenier, Game Director on Apex Legends, had this to say: “Switch owners can expect to get their hands on Apex Legends next year. And of course, when Apex Legends does launch on Switch, it’ll come with support for cross-platform play, our latest seasonal content, and full feature parity with the other versions of the game.”

EA has officially confirmed on February 2 that Apex Legends for the Nintendo Switch will officially launch on March 9.

Porting Apex Legends to its smallest screen yet is a major achievement, and we couldn’t have done it without our friends at Panic Button. We’re very proud of what the team has been able to achieve with some smart optimizations for the Switch port to deliver a full-featured Apex Legends experience on the go.

Apex Legends will launch on Switch with support for cross-platform play, our latest seasonal content, and full feature parity with the other versions of the game.

Plus, since we’re launching a few weeks after the start of Season 8, Switch players will be granted 30 free levels for their Season 8 Battle Pass. For the first two weeks after launch, playing on Switch will also earn you double XP.

Nintendo Switch players who get the game will receive 30 free tiers in the Season 8 Battle Pass to ensure they can catch up to finish Season 8 in time.

As a last little bonus for players, Respawn has also announced that all Switch players will get a new Legendary Pathfinder skin (Called P.A.T.H.) for just playing the game on the platform from launch onto the end of Season 8 on May 4, 2021.

We’ll continue to keep fans updated as the Nintendo Switch Apex Legends announcements happen.
