Apex Legends dev explains why they won’t buff Mirage’s passive cloaking

Mirage is one of the most popular characters in Apex Legends, but one dev has explained why the character’s passive cloaking ability won’t be getting a buff any time soon.

If sneaking around and making it difficult for your enemies to spot you is your kind of thing, then Mirage is the Legend for you. As his name suggests, the character is a master of disguise, with two of his abilities allowing him to throw out decoy versions of himself to confuse opponents.

His passive is also extremely useful, with ‘Now You See Me…’ allowing him to deploy a decoy and become invisible when downed, or turn invisible when reviving a teammate or using a Respawn Beacon. That doesn’t mean every Apex Legends player thinks he’s strong enough, with one fan suggesting this ability needs to be buffed.

In a Reddit post on December 17, user danthemandoris suggested a small buff that would see Mirage passively cloak while looting a Deathbox. The Apex fan claimed it “wouldn’t be broken as he’d still have the humming sound and faint lights to give him away,” but that adding this would be perfect as it “would totally fit his character.”

Danthemandoris also argued that in a game where getting ‘third-partied” happens regularly, it would give the character some “genuine utility” and could help players when this happens.

While there was some strong support from fellow players, Respawn Senior Game designer Daniel Klein appeared to explain that they had actually tested this before, but found that it didn’t work.

“We tested this! It did not go well,” he responded. “Fun fact: There is such a thing as too much bamboozling. People were getting ambushed by invisible loot box Mirages when it worked; 99% of the time it did nothing and was just confusing to the Mirage.”

Despite there being some support for the change, Klein’s comment suggests that we won’t see a change like this any time soon.

That doesn’t mean Respawn won’t buff Mirage other ways in the future, so keep an eye on future updates to see if the master of disguise gets any powerful additions to his abilities.
