Apex Legends pro players had been desperate for the Self-Revive ability to be removed, and it finally will with the Season 14 update. However, the self res might not be gone forever.

Apex Legends Season 14 arrives on August 9, bringing the new Legend Vantage, Kings Canyon map changes, and a new Prestige system. This update will also remove the Self-Revive ability from the game, something that pro players and the competitive community have long been requesting.

Apex Legends Season 14 will completely remove the Self-Revive ability from the Gold Knockdown Shield. Instead, the shield will allow players to be revived at half health and the Self-Revive is gone.

However, in an interview with TheGamer ahead of Season 14, game designer Eric Canavese suggested that the Self-Revive’s fate might not be set in stone.

“We listen to our community, and it’s important that we show that we’re listening, but we’re not going to do everything that the community wants,” explained Canavese. The Self-Revive’s removal “isn’t just something to appease the community, this is something that we feel will benefit the health of the game, the ranked integrity, and professional play across the board.”

Canavese continued to explain that whenever the community is up in arms about something, they look at it and come to their own conclusions. This is how they handled Self-Revive, but are open to reverting the change if it doesn’t have the desired effect.

“If it doesn’t work, maybe we’ll go back to self res, who knows? But we’re always up for trying stuff new and we don’t want to be scared to respond to that and give new things a shot in the game,” he concluded.
