The NPD Data for the month of August 2018 is out and there was a surprising addition to the Top 10 best selling games at retail and digital for the month in the US: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

In August, Microsoft announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was now backwards compatible on Xbox One — and that announcement was one of our most popular tweets ever, as the love for MW2 seems to still be strong.

The top 10 list from NPD shows the best selling titles at retail and digital for the month:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 checked in at #8 on the list of the best selling games for the month.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 made a huge jump on the list, going from 321st selling game on the list in July to the #8 best selling game on the list in August.

It was one of the three Activision Blizzard games on the best selling list, with Call of Duty: WWII and Overwatch showing up as well. Call of Duty: WWII continues to be the best selling game in the US over the last 12 months.
