The Warzone 2 Season 2 update is widely expected to bring a long-awaited nerf to the Fennec 45, and players think they’ve found the SMG that will take its place at the top of the meta.

Ever since Warzone 2 launched back in November 2022, the battle royale sequel has been dominated by two weapons in particular. The RPK LMG became the go-to long-range option thanks to its impressive damage output at a distance, while the Fennec 45‘s blistering TTK saw it take over the short-range meta.

Nerfs to both guns are expected to arrive in Warzone 2 Season 2, with the devs teasing that they’ve got a host of weapon balancing changes planned for the update. Making the RPK and Fennec less powerful would certainly be a game changer, leaving big shoes to fill in both categories.

Luckily, with Season 2 just weeks away, Warzone 2 players think they’ve found the SMG ready to step up and replace the Fennec if it does get hit with a major nerf.

According to Reddit user TTVwheezyhayes, the P90, known in-game as the PDSW 528, has what it takes to be the “next meta SMG.” They also included a clip to back up their claims.

It showed the P90 easily dispatching multiple players in quick succession, downing enemies at a rapid rate. While the TTK wasn’t quite as fast as the meta Fennec, it was clear that the SMG could more than hold its own in a frantic gunfight.

Despite a few questions surrounding the quality of the enemies they faced, many other players seemed to agree with OP, expecting the P90 to become one of Warzone 2’s best weapons in the weeks to come.

“Absolutely is,” replied one user. “I f*cking hate the fennec [it’s] so hard to control, [there’s] better range on the P90, 100 times easier to control and the movement with it feels better as well.”

WaRcOcK83 also backed the PDSW 528, saying: “I always use the P90. The things a laser for headshots.”

At the time of writing, the P90 is currently sitting on a pick rate of just 0.5% according to WZ Ranked, some way off the popularity of the Fennec at 10.5%.

However, if the Warzone 2 Season 2 update does deliver the major nerfs we’re expecting, or even a buff to the P90 itself, don’t be surprised to see the classic CoD SMG show up in more matches going forward.
