Strange Modern Warfare 2 glitch is sending players to the Shadow Realm
Call of Duty players hopping into Modern Warfare 2 are encountering a strange glitch that shrouds the entire map in darkness and throws them into the Shadow Realm.
With Modern Warfare 2 finally here, players are eagerly exploring all the fun content that’s available in the brand-new Call of Duty title, including guns like the Kastov 762 and unlockable Mastery camos.
However, the game’s launch has not been free of problems, as reports are coming in of strange glitches that pop up during matches. Now, a frustrating visual glitch is throwing players into another dimension.
Call of Duty content creator Hutch highlighted this in a gameplay clip shared on Twitter. It showed him climbing up a structure in the Mercado Las Almas map, only to get “consumed by darkness” as the screen turned black.
The entire map disappeared and the only things that were still visible were a few icons. Even his weapon had been reduced to a white rectangle with no textures visible. As the player ran in the other direction, the darkness temporarily followed him.
After a few seconds, the issue resolved itself and the map became visible again. Hutch was surprised and went back to business. In his tweet, he joked: “Modern Warfare 2 saw me using a thermal sniper and banished me to the Shadow Realm.”
In the replies, another player shared their gameplay clip of the visual bug occurring on the same map. As with Hutch, the darkness followed them as they moved around, but they were able to outrun it.

While both of these players experienced the same glitch on Mercado Las Almas, the problem doesn’t seem to be restricted to just that map as one user claimed that it also happened at Al Bagra Fortress.
Hutch asked if there was a fix for this problem, but there appears to be none at the moment. The visual glitch seems to automatically go away after a short amount of time. So, players will have to deal with it until the developers patch it up.
This isn’t the first time an issue like this has popped up in a Call of Duty title, as Warzone also had a similar glitch that would cause the screen to go black after using a Stim. We’ll be sure to update you as soon as the developers implement a fix for this Modern Warfare 2 glitch.
