One simple ship feature that’s easily overseen in the early game could’ve saved this Starfield player many hours of “menu juggling” when exploring systems in Starfield.

Starfield is the latest game from the Fallout developers and a box of mysteries when it comes to all its secrets and mechanics. It is a complex game that requires players to put some hours into understanding how to traverse space.

When it comes to ship handling, Starfield cruises are no easy feat, and navigating through space, new planets, and systems needs some practice. When it comes to scanning planets, the ship’s built-in feature can be easily accessed, but is also easily missed.

Simple ship mechanic improves fast travel in Starfield

After 400 hours of Starfield, Reddit user ‘T-Lightning’ discovered that they could use the scanner inside the ship and that this was a great option for fast traveling. “Using the scanner to fast travel instead of going through menus makes a surprisingly big difference to how the game feels,” commented a user on their post.

Surprised by this player just finding out about the built-in scanner, users shared that this feature is mentioned in the early game. “Pretty sure there’s a pop-up that says you can do that early in the game,” a user pointed, and another one added that it is “as soon as you lift off from Vectera.”

User ‘T-Lightning’ might not be the only one just finding out about this, as others stated in surprise: “Oh my god. The game is an entirely different experience when you use the scanner.”

The Starfield ship scanner feature is available from the start, and it can be used by pressing F on PC or LB on your Xbox controller to activate it. This will open the scanner mode and can point to almost anything and everything to extract information.
