Rocket League is wildly popular on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. In order to increase their player base, it is common for multiplayer games to go free-to-play and this article will inform you if Rocket League has opted for the free-to-play model as well.

Rocket League is an award-winning Sports game with an enormous player base that continues to grow in 2022. In Rocket League, players use rocket-powered vehicles to hit a ball into their opponents’ net, similar to soccer.

The cross-platform game recently arrived on Android and iOS in the form of Rocket League Sideswipe and to say the least, it is equally action-packed and entertaining. If you’re yet to try out this unique blend of cars and soccer, this guide on Rocket League’s free-to-play status will certainly help you.

Is Rocket League free?

Rocket League is free to play for users on all platforms. Interestingly enough, it did not release as a free download for players in 2015. That all changed in 2020 when Psyonix decided to turn its game free-to-play.

Those who purchased the game prior to the switch received Legacy status and a gift of free exclusive cosmetics. For PC players, the new free version of Rocket League moved from Steam to the Epic Games Store, where you can find it today.

In addition, not only is the game free but PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox console owners can play Rocket League for free without a subscription to PlayStation Plus, Nintendo Switch Online, or Xbox Game Pass.

Downloading Rocket League for free on your platform of choice is an easy task. You just need to follow these easy steps and you’ll be rocketing around in no time.

  1. Visit your platform’s game store: PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo
  2. Sign in or make an account if you don’t already have one
  3. Search for Rocket League
  4. Download the game
  5. Launch Rocket League

As previously mentioned, you don’t need a subscription to your platform’s online service to play the game. In that way, Rocket League is similar to Fortnite, and given that they’re two extremely popular games available in 2022, the free-to-play model seems like a great thing for gamers.
