In a new post on the official Pokemon site, Game Freak have confirmed the odds of catching shiny species during Mass Outbreaks in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

When adventuring around a Pokemon region, especially on a catching spree, shiny Pokemon might appear as a surprise. This is related to the low spawn odds shiny Pokemon have, being 1 in 4,096 for the Scarlet and Violet games.

Now, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have confirmed in an official blog post the odds for one of the best methods to catch shiny species in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Mass Outbreaks.

These special events occur every now and then in the wild and can spawn multiple Pokemon from the same species during one in-game day. The Pokemon community pointed out since the release of Scarlet & Violet that these were one of the best methods to catch shiny species, and now it’s official.

Besides being an official post, the news came to light after a Reddit post made by user ‘finn_shavocado,’ which pointed out that this “implies the odds max after 90 KOs, not 60!”

The official confirmation states that players will “have the highest chance of encountering a Shiny Pokemon when you receive the message that says ‘There are not many [Pokemon] left from the original outbreak…'”, which happens after defeating a certain number of Pokemon.

With no official confirmation on the exact amount, the community debates in the post about the number being 60 KOs vs 90 KOs. “60 KOs is still when it caps out,” pointed out a user, while many others backed this saying that the “not many [Pokemon] left from the original outbreak,” message mostly appears after defeating 60 Pokemon.

All in all, there’s an official confirmation from The Pokemon Company on when you’ll have the best chances to snatch a shiny creature! For more on Pokemon, be sure to check out how all about Mewoscarada and Great Tusk in Scarlet and Violet.
