Basculin and Basculegion in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, you can add Basculin and Basculegion to the Kitakami regional Pokedex. Here’s where to find Basculin, and how to evolve it into Basculegion in The Teal Mask.

Basculin is a Water-type Pokemon from the fifth generation, that also appeared in core games like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and is now back in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, thanks to the Teal Mask DLC. Basculin has three regular forms, and two evolved forms for Basculegion.

Traditionally, Basculin evolved into Basculegion in the Hisuian region, but now trainers can now get this strong Water/Ghost-type Pokemon on their teams. Here’s how to get Basculin and evolve it into Basculegion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask.

Where to find Basculin in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet The Teal Mask

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC The Teal Mask, trainers will find Basculin in the lake southwest of Timeless Woods, in the closest branch of the river, near a cascade.

All Basculin caught in this region will be above level 70, so keep that in mind when you face them. You can also try your luck and catch them as soon as the combat begins with a Quick Ball.

Which Basculin & Basculegion forms are available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC

In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC The Teal Mask, trainers can only find White-striped form Basculin. White-striped Basculin is considered a Hisuian regional form, so the fact that this Basculin form is here sheds more light on the theory of the Hisuian region (Sinnoh) and Kitakami being connected.

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, trainers can catch Basculin in its Blue-striped and Red-striped forms in the West Province (Area One of Paldea). Keep in mind that only White-striped Basculin evolves into Basculegion.

Basculegion has two forms: White and Red. White Basculegion can be obtained by evolving a female White Basculin, and Red Basculegion can be obtained by evolving a male White Basculin.

How to evolve Basculin into Basculegion in Pokemon S&V The Teal Mask

To evolve Basculin into Basculegion in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet The Teal Mask, trainers need to get their Basculin to use moves that cause recoil damage. Here’s what you need to do to evolve Basculin into Basculegion:

  1. Get a Basculin that knows Double-Edge or Wave Crash.
  2. Make Basculin use those moves to cause recoil damage on itself.
  3. Basculin needs to cause itself 249 damage or more without fainting (otherwise the damage count will reset).
  4. After this, level up Basculin and it will evolve into Basculegion.

You can keep your Basculin at full health after each successful combat, as this won’t reset the damage count for its evolution condition. Remember to avoid Basculin from fainting as this will reset the recoil damage count and you’ll need to start over.

Most of the Basculin caught in Kitakami already know Double-Edge and Wave Crash, so you’ll have no issues getting the necessary damage count for it to evolve.

Basculegion in Pokemon S&V The Teal Mask
Basculegion is a Water/Ghost-type previously exclusive to Pokemon Legends Arceus.

One useful trick would be to battle Vulpix and Spinarak in the zones where you caught your Basculin, as they will faint with only one use of Wave Crash, and you can keep your Basculin alive and heal it after combat. You will manage to evolve it in no time.
