Inflexion Games’ devs explained why Nightingale’s pricing is so low compared with other AAA releases and offered some insight into the current state of the industry.

Nightingale is preparing for its Early Access launch on February 20, 2024, and players are already anxious to try this new survival and crafting game. Inspired by a gaslight fantasy setting, Nightingale combines FPS and RPG mechanics into a seamlessly procedurally generated experience.

Yet some details remain to be discussed. Pricing is one of the said items left in the dark until the very last minute, and while Inflexion Games’ devs have already revealed the price, some players are asking themselves: “Why is the game so cheap?”

Aaryn Flynn, former Mass Effect employee and now CEO of Inflexion Games, shed some light on this topic while being interviewed by Gamesradar.

According to Flynn, there’s a “rough competitive environment in survival games,” and while fans of the genre have a hefty number of games to pick from, like Palworld, Valheim, and Sons of the Forest, he believes that in the long run, the important thing is to “channel that interest and use it as fuel.”

“It’s cool to see survival crafting having a moment. I think it’s great,” Flynn stated and then added: “There might be short-term competition, there’s only so many dollars to go around and somebody’s gotta say ‘I think I can afford one of these games, so I’ll choose this one over that one.’ But I think long term it all nets out and everything’s elevated.”

When asked about the pricing of Nightingale, the CEO of Inflexion Games said: “I think we feel good about what we’re putting out there for $30.” And then added: “We know it’s our first game, from a new studio, and so there’s no reason for players to give us the benefit of the doubt.”
