Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the latest Rocksteady game to make use of beloved DC characters, but is it an open-world game like the other Arkham series titles? Here’s everything you need to know.

2024 is off to a strong start, with the likes of Tekken 8 and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth launching to positive receptions, while Palworld has dominated the conversation. But there are no signs of slowing down, as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is continuing the trend of high-profile superhero games.

The long-awaited new project from Rocksteady fleshes out their iconic Arkhamverse with a brand-new story that’s set to grow even bigger with future updates. But does it follow the series trend and drop players into an open world?

Here’s everything you need to know about whether Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is an open-world game.

Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League an open-world game?

Yes, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is open world. Just like in previous games such as Batman: Arkham Knight, players can freely explore the map between missions, ticking off side activities, and hunting down collectibles.

The key difference this time around is that the game is set in Metropolis, the home of Superman, rather than the dark streets of Gotham City.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set in an open-world Metropolis.

There’s plenty to see and do in the open world, but the devs have made an effort to ensure that it’s much more than just a backdrop. Back in 2021, during the DC FanDome panel, Rocksteady Creative Director, Sefton Hill, mentioned that they want Metropolis to be the “fifth character” in the game.

While roaming the open map, each individual character has a unique ability to help players navigate quickly. For example, Harley Quinn uses a zipline to swing between buildings, while King Shark leaps from rooftop to rooftop.

Each member of Task Force X also comes with their own skill tree, so players have the option to upgrade their abilities to make it even easier to get around.
