Dune: Awakening is set to be an ambitious open-world survival MMO that takes inspiration from both the movies and books of the Dune franchise. Funcom promised an adventure where players will need to deal with the complex political interactions between factions, as well as survive the unforgiving world of Arrakis.

Developed with Unreal Engine 5, devs are getting ready to introduce a huge world filled with secrets, fast-paced mechanics, and visually astounding creatures that are lurking underneath the sand-filled environment.

Here’s everything you need to know about Dune: Awakening.

Dune: Awakening gameplay

Dune: Awakening promises to combine the creativity of a sandbox survival game with persistent multiplayer game features found in any Open World MMO.

Players will need to create their own identity and level up their characters while choosing factions that will give them specialized abilities. Starting on Arrakis, they’ll need to explore the vast universe of Dune, forming alliances and trying to defeat classic enemies as seen in both the movies and the books.

However, fighting enemies or exploring the map isn’t the only thing to do in Dune: Awakening. Characters will need to seek water, craft precious items, and develop their shelters into fortresses to survive the cruel environment of Arrakis.

Players will have to choose which factions they want to fight for in Arrakis.

If enemies come knocking on the player’s settlements, they’ll be able to engage in third-person combat, and use every weapon and their disposal, as well as plan strategies between infantry, ground, and flying vehicles.

Dune: Awakening trailers

Dune: Awakening was first announced in 2022 at The Game Awards, where devs showed the sandworm-filled planet of Arrakis, as well as several iconic vehicles that are set to explore its iconic desert landscape.

On March 4, 2024, the Norwegian game developer Funcom presented a 25-minute digital showcase. There, they provided new details on Dune: Awakening, and showed a new gameplay trailer called “Survive Arrakis.”
