FIFA 23 players can bag themselves a free World Cup History Makers card to use in Ultimate Team matches. Here’s how to claim your free FIFA 23 World Cup History Makers card, as well as how the upgrades will work.

World Cup items have dominated FIFA 23 Ultimate Team in recent weeks, bringing a steady stream of content to the mode. From Path to Glory cards to World Cup Phenoms, there’s been plenty for FUT fans to get excited about.

Most of the new additions require coins or FIFA Points to get hold of them, but EA are offering a new special card to celebrate Qatar 2022 that’s absolutely free.

Here’s how to get a free World Cup History Makers card in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team, and how they will increase in rating over time.

What are FIFA 23 World Cup History Makers?

World Cup History Makers are a new item in FIFA 23, inspired by the stars of Qatar 2022 and the footballing idols that paved the way for them. In total, there are 12 different players arriving as History Makers, each of which is linked to a World Cup Hero or Icon from the same nation.

Check out the full lineup of FIFA 23 History Makers, and their corresponding Hero or Icon in the list below:

  • Kylian Mbappe and Zinedine Zidane (France)
  • Virgil van Dijk and Robin Van Persie (Netherlands)
  • Federico Valverde and Diego Forlan (Uruguay)
  • Joao Felix and Luis Figo (Portugal)
  • Jude Bellingham and David Beckham (England)
  • Jordan Ayew and Michael Essien (Ghana)

How to get free FIFA 23 World Cup History Makers card

All players have to do in order to get their free History Makers player is make sure they played FIFA 23 anytime before Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Simply logging into the game from your console or PC is enough to qualify for the offer, but EA Play free trials and the Web App sadly don’t count.

The cards can be claimed anytime from December 23, 2022. After this date, a free pack will arrive in the store containing one of the current World Cup stars listed above, as well as their Hero or Icon as a seven-game loan item.

Like most FUT packs, the players are dished out randomly so there’s no way of telling who will walk out.

FIFA 23 World Cup History Makers upgrades explained

As if getting a free World Cup card isn’t good enough, each History Maker item will also receive two +1 rating upgrades. The first happened on January 13, 2023, followed by another on 14 February.

This means that if you’re lucky enough to receive one of the highest-rated players in the mix, you could easily wind up with one of the game’s best cards simply for logging in.

We’ll be sure to update this page as soon as we know the exact dates for each upgrade.
