Of the various promos and special events that the FIFA series has conjured up over the years, none are held in the same esteem as Team of the Year. These unique blue cards celebrate the very players in world football over the past 12 months, rewarding them with dizzying in-game stats that make them some of Ultimate Team‘s most expensive items.

The FIFA 23 TOTY is now live, marking the first appearance for a number of rising stars as well as featuring some surprising omissions. With this in mind, there’s no better time to look at the TOTY squads that came before.

The TOTY is always one of the most hotly-anticipated events on the FUT calendar, with EA asking players to vote for the best performers of the previous 12 months. This could be based on individual awards, or the trophies won as a team.

Since the Team of the Year concept made its debut in FIFA 09, some of the sport’s biggest names have graced the squad, but there have also been some surprise inclusions over the years.
