Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty brings a tale of spies and espionage to Night City. But if you’re not careful, you could end up losing access to the entire main quest of the expansion.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is riddled with easter eggs and secrets for players to discover. The massive expansion brings a host of new features to the game, alongside a new district named Dogtown. At the heart of Phantom Liberty is its main quest starring the dogmatic Solomon Reed played by Idris Elba.

V’s escapades in the district begin after receiving an abrupt call from a Netrunner named Songbird. She recruits V to save NUSA President Rosalind Myers whose plane is about to crash. What follows is a tightly woven tale of spies, betrayal, treason, and more. However, you can miss out on the main quest entirely by simply not following the instructions.

User ‘SynthPotatao’ on X (formerly Twitter) learned this the hard way, as their brother encountered a secret cutscene after failing Phantom Liberty‘s introductory sequence. Instead of rushing to save the President, the user spent a bit of time looking around. This resulted in Songbird lashing out at V before stating that the President is dead.

She goes on to issue a grave warning to V after which the screen turns black. The player is then greeted by Johnny Silverhand in the middle of Dogtown. The deceased rocker boy confirms that the main quest is toast, although Dogtown and its side gigs are still available to the player.

This neat bit of attention to detail certainly adds to the sense of urgency implied in the main quests. It’ll also be interesting to see how the game’s world reacts to the President’s departure. Judging by the time poured into Phantom Liberty, the expansion could feature other secrets like this.
