Cyberpunk 2077 beats all-time Steam and Twitch records with its launch

Despite concerns over its launch and the game’s unknown state, Cyberpunk 2077 has been a massive success. Cyberpunk has smashed Steam and Twitch records making its launch a historical one.

Delays and PR fumbles have clearly done nothing to deter rabid fans that needed Cyberpunk 2077. The long-awaited release has garnered an incredible amount of hype and clearly a lot of sales.

It has managed to break some incredible records on the main gaming platforms, and its social statistics are something to behold.

CyberSuccess

Despite Steam launching over 17 years ago, no single-player game has ever been able to crack 1 million concurrent players, until now.

Cyberpunk 2077 has the honor of becoming the first Steam title to do so and has managed to reach a peak of 1,054,388 players at the same time.

As a comparison, the sandbox creativity of Terraria is the next-best title and that didn’t even reach half a million.

What’s more, Cyberpunk 2077 is only the fourth-ever game to reach the 1 million concurrent players mark in Steam’s history – including multiplayer games. Cyberpunk’s all-time peak could’ve been even higher if not for people also watching the game on Twitch and breaking their records too.

Given how contentious Cyberpunk’s development has been, it’s understandable that many people aren’t willing to play it straight away. Meaning that several Twitch records have been smashed as well.

Despite Twitch’s incredible popularity, its thousands and thousands of streamers that use the platform every day, and the millions that consume it, only seven games have ever had over 1 million people watching a game. Cyberpunk 2077 was the eighth.

Just like Steam, Cyberpunk became the first single-player game to achieve over 1 million peak viewers simultaneously. The reception to Cyberpunk has been exquisite with the game achieving a score of 91 out of 100 on Metacritic on PC.

Positive word of mouth could easily see the game eclipse its own records and set even higher standards on both Steam and Twitch in the future.
