Warzone’s new Nuketown-inspired Gulag has come in for criticism as of late. Players are saying that one side of the CoD map heavily favors one player, making it unfair for their rival.

There have been a plethora of changes to Warzone since it integrated into Black Ops Cold War. The Season 1 launch has seen the game receive a whole new map in Rebirth Island, there’s been the slew of new guns brought over from BOCW, and there have been gameplay changes.

But not everything has been a smash-hit for the season. There have been complaints about the DMR, the return of the stim glitch, and even “pay-to-win” skins. Further still, a new change has seen the traditional Shower-based Gulag replaced by a variation of Nuketown.

Most instances of Nuketown are usually welcomed. In this case, the addition has been lamented due to the fact that it’s changed the dynamics of the Gulag and made it unfair for one of the players.

The original Gulag became etched in internet infamy, generating endless memes and challenging players to “1v1 in the Gulag”. It was a tough proving ground that allowed one player to win a duel, earn their stripes, and gain the opportunity to re-enter the Warzone.

One of the Gulag’s best qualities was that it was fair and unprejudiced. The whole arena was symmetrical, and each player had the same layout to contend with. It meant that it all boiled down to pure skill and who could keep their cool the best.

The new Nuketown Gulag doesn’t quite offer the same challenge, and it actually incorporates an element of luck into proceedings.

Players are complaining that one side of Nuketown has certain obstacles to exploit that the other player doesn’t have. These are sentiments from the Warzone subreddit with multiple players all unifying to show their displeasure with the game’s newest Gulag.

“The title says it all. 40% of my gulag deaths are from my enemy camping behind the car ruins. That’s not what the gulag was originally designed to do. This needs a change.”

The general consensus is that players would like to see the old Gulag restored so that there isn’t a feeling of being unfairly treated.

Given how popular and iconic the original Gulag was, it could easily be welcomed back in Season 2 to bring about a new wealth of memes.
