Call of Duty: Vanguard’s take on a classic WWII weapon, which has previously been known as the Thompson, comes in the form of the M1928. This fast-firing SMG can dominate the battlefield, especially with this loadout.
Vanguard has a lot of great weapon options for players to use in Multiplayer. Depending on playstyle and choice of combat pacing, players may opt to have something mobile and deadly in close-quarters combat.
Now that Call of Duty has returned to the WWII setting, a great option for the SMG class is the M1928. This SMG is very reminiscent of the Thompson from World at War.
For those who loved the Thompson, and are looking for a great SMG, here is our best Vanguard M1928 loadout. This loadout includes the best attachments and perks to be using.
Best Vanguard M1928 Gunsmith loadout attachments
- Muzzle: Gutts Compensator
- Barrel: Chariot 2.5” Rapid
- Optic: Spitfire MK.3 Reflector
- Stock: CGC S Adjustable
- Underbarrel: M1941 Handstop
- Magazine: .45 ACP 30 Round Fast Mags
- Ammo Type: Lengthened
- Rear Grip: Fabric Grip
- Proficiency: Frenzy
- Kit: Quick
The M1928 can be quite a difficult gun to handle. Noting this, the Gutts Compensator is a must-have attachment for reducing its recoil. It allows you to hit your shots even when stepping out of the weapons range.
Although the M1928 already has a pretty fast fire rate, the Chariot 2.5” Rapid barrel gives the weapon an extra boost. It takes the fire rate to another level allowing you to take enemies down fast and efficiently.

When it comes to improving your mobility and accuracy of the M1928, players will want to use the Spitfire MK.3 Reflector and CGC S Adjustable stock. While the optic will help improve your accuracy and visibility when aiming down sights, the stock will increase your sprint to fire time and movement speed. This will allow you to get up close and personal, which is where the weapon really thrives.
To help balance some of the accuracy lost with the CGC S Adjustable stock, players should use the M1941 Handstop underbarrel, allowing players to hit more initial shots with an increase in the weapon’s handling.
For the weapon’s magazine, players should opt for the .45 ACP 30 Round Fast Mags, as this will allow you to get back in the fight quickly, increasing the weapon’s reload speed so you can get back to firing much sooner.
The Ammo Type we’ve chosen for this build is Lengthened, as this attachment makes the M1928’s bullet velocity faster, which is vital for an SMG, especially for those engagements that are just outside of its optimal range.
To further improve your speed with the M1928, the Fabric Grip will boost the player’s sprint to fire speed and ADS speed, making it easier for you to get the first shot off on your opponents.
Lastly, we have Frenzy and the Quick kit attachments. Frenzy allows you to immediately regen health after securing a kill, while Quick boosts speed once again, allowing you to move around the map effortlessly, gaining kills on the move while regenerating your health.
Best Perks to run with Vanguard M1928
- 1 Perk: Ghost
- 2 Perk: Radar
- 3 Perk: Double Time
Just like in most Call of Duty games, Ghost is a must-have perk in Vanguard’s Multiplayer. It operates similarly to how it did in Cold War, being active while the player is on the move. It is an extremely powerful Perk that will keep you hidden from spy planes, and help keep you alive during a match.
The second Perk we’ve chosen for the best Vanguard M1928 loadout is Radar. As players stay undetected on the minimap while firing just like in Modern Warfare 2019, this Perk is vital for those who want more information on their minimap. Radar will make those firing without Subsonic ammo pop up on the radar, allowing you to have as much information on the enemy as possible.
Our final choice for Perks is Double Time, which will increase the duration of tactical sprint, allowing players to get around fast with the M1928, which is great for those who like to run and gun.
How to unlock the M1928 in Vanguard
Players can unlock the M1928 in Call of Duty: Vanguard by hitting level 20 in the game’s Multiplayer mode.
This is a fairly early level so you won’t have to wait long until you can unlock and use the weapon.
