The Shambling Mound in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a difficult fight and can be even worse if you happen upon it accidentally. With a new Legendary Action introduced with Patch 6 in Honour Mode too, here is everything you need to defeat the Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound.

The Shadow Cursed Lands in Baldur’s Gate 3 are rife with danger, but few are quite as intimidating as the Shambling Mound. Found in the Ruined Battlefield, this hulking tree-like creature is a fight you won’t soon forget

In Patch 6, Larian also gave the Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound a new Legendary Action when you play in Honour Mode, making the fight even more of a mountain to climb. Don’t fret, though, as we have everything you need to easily defeat the Shambling Mound.

Where to find the Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Shambling Mound can be found in the Ruined Battlefield of the Shadow-Cursed Lands, just South of Last Light Inn

The Shadow-Cursed Mound is sitting South of Last Light Inn and to the East of Reithwinn Town in a seemingly unimportant location of the Ruined Battlefield. You will likely run into it while you are looking for Oliver.

How to defeat the Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Shambling Mound can be defeated in Baldur’s Gate 3 by making use of space, sneaking up on it, and using primarily AoE attacks

Here are the basics of what you need to do to succeed in this battle:

  1. Bring ranged characters with in your party.
  2. Make sure you have spells like Freedom of Movement or items like Ring of Free Action to help you get out of Entangled and other restricting spells.
  3. Sneak up to the area where the Shambling Mound is and get in position.
  4. Bait the enemies into a chokehold or around a Tank (Paladin, Barbarian, etc).
  5. Use Grease and Fireball together for a big damage hit.
  6. You can also target Needle Blights to make them explode and hit the ads around them.

The Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound is a challenging fight in Act 2.

There are a few things that make the Shambling Mound a difficult enemy to contend with. One of them is that you can be easily surprised by it, as it is not immediately clear that you could be walking into a boss fight.

Misty Step is particularly useful to sneak up on them, as you can stay in hiding and covertly move your ranged characters to better positions.

It also has a lot of extremely strong attacks that can one-hit you and there are quite a few smaller enemies you need to deal with.

Defeating the Shambling Mound in Baldur’s Gate 3 Honour Mode has the same basic strategy but with a bit more caution.

Fireball is a useful spell to have on hand for the fight against the Shambling Mound.

Patch 6 introduced a new Legendary Action to the Shambling Mound; Wretched Growth. The action deals 3d10 Necrotic damage and Entangles anyone who ends their turn within five meters of it. Here, we would suggest taking more ranged characters that can do damage from afar.

Using spells like Entangle and Web yourself will also give you more leeway when doing damage with ranged characters. Not only that, but if the Shambling Mound hits anyone with the Digestive Sap effect they will die instantly. As a result, it may not be a good idea to completely rely on Melee characters.
