After the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 6, Larian Studios has had to do some fixes to game-breaking bugs and issues. Among the stress, though, they announced some good news for players who enjoy modding.

With every patch of Baldur’s Gate 3, players who use mods in the game have been experiencing issues where they have to re-install the game or make some background fixes so they can still use their mods in their current playthrough

Specifically, in the latest patch, the Script Extender mod was no longer compatible with Baldur’s Gate 3. This was a major issue for fans, because the Script Extender is a popular mod that enables Lua and Osiris scripting support to the game.

As a response, Larian Studios has announced that they will be adding official mod support to Baldur’s Gate 3 in future updates.

A message on the Baldur's Gate 3 Discord
The Baldur’s Gate 3 devs shared that they are working on official mod support.

“We absolutely love that we have such an active modding community across our titles, and have enjoyed seeing that passion grow even stronger with Baldur’s Gate 3,” they said in a post on their official Discord.

“We are working on official mod support, and have been for a while. We want the very best for you, which includes establishing a pipeline that lets mod authors release their mods across different platforms.”

Fans were excited about this news, particularly that mod support will be available for console players in future. Right now, you can only really mod Baldur’s Gate 3 if you play on PC.

“Oh my god, if BG3 get mods on PS5 like Skyrim/FO4 I’ll freak out, positively,” a player said in a thread on Reddit that discussed the news Larian shared.

The devs went on to explain that they are working on mod support for custom classes, UI, customization, spells, assets, and game mechanics. Essentially, it seems that most of the mods players are currently using will be officially supported by the game soon.
