Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe is an upcoming entry into the long-running franchise currently in development. Here’s everything we know about it so far, including leaked information on the release window, the protagonist, theme, setting, and more.

Multiple new Assassin’s Creed adventures are in the works at Ubisoft, including Codename Jade, Codename Red, and of course, Assassin’s Creed Hexe. The title was revealed back in 2022 with a short teaser that showed off a rather bleak tone when compared to other AC titles.

The small announcement trailer gathered plenty of interest in the game, but the devs have yet to share new information about it. For fans eagerly waiting to learn more, a recent leak has revealed some crucial details about the title, including information surrounding the protagonist.

On that note, here’s everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Hexe so far:

Assassin’s Creed Hexe leaked release window

While there is no official release window for Assassin’s Creed Hexe, a report from Insider Gaming has stated that it is “expected to be released in 2026.”

The report adds that the title will be released on Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a new platform that was revealed during Ubisoft Forward 2022.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is said to be in the early stages of development, so it’ll be a while before it’s in the hands of players.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe leaked female protagonist

As per leaks, Assassin’s Creed Hexe will feature a female protagonist named Elsa. The character will have supernatural powers with an example being the ability to possess cats and control them.

Based on this, we can speculate that the protagonist practices witchcraft and has several other abilities up her sleeve. The game’s rumored setting only bolsters this idea and so does the title, as the German word ‘Hexe’ translates to ‘witch’ in English.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe setting

The small teaser for Assassin’s Creed Hexe carried many hints for the game’s setting. For starters, the backdrop appeared to be a gloomy forest with dead leaves withering down from trees. The camera then panned downwards to reveal the Assassin’s Creed insignia made out of twigs and strung together like a witch’s charm.

The next frame saw the symbol get encased within a circle, with an ancient German Dialect scribbled on the outer edges. After translation, it reads “We work in the dark to serve the light.” All of this points towards the game being set in Germany. A report from Bloomberg even suggests that it is set during the 16th-century Holy Roman Empire, possibly during the witch hunts.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe gameplay details

Unlike the modern trilogy of Origins, Odyssey, and Ragnarok, Assassin’s Creed Hexe will not be an RPG. This was confirmed by the series’ executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté. The upcoming title is set to be a linear experience with bits of exploration.

Going by leaks, the game will also have an iteration of the Fear System, which was a central part of the Jack the Ripper DLC in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. The Fear System allowed players to control the Ripper and hunt down targets in increasingly violent ways. An example of this is the brutal takedowns, which saw Jack stab enemies repeatedly alongside other ruthless maneuvers.

It’ll be interesting to see how the system plays out in a new setting.
