Activision says CoD XP2011 was second most-watched livestream ever

Activision used online livestreaming to help promote and bring Call of Duty XP to all the fans who couldn’t make it on Sept. 2nd, Turns out a LOT of people virtually attended XP.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told IndustryGamers. “Livestream, the company that broadcast the event for us, indicated that it’s the second most viewed event in history.” He added “We were also a global trended topic on Twitter during the first 24 hours of the event, and a lot of the metrics are still coming in so we’re doing a deep dive on the investment. But we’ve reached our goal of getting our fans to really engage the game… The average viewing time of the keynote speech was 30 minutes, and that’s the kind of deep engagement that’s very hard to get with a TV commercial or paid media.”

The first most watched livestream was coverage of the Royal Wedding and the third was a speech given by President Obama.

Will XP return next year? Our guess is yes, although Hirshberg wouldn’t confirm but he did say “[XP] opened up possibilities to go even bigger for next year.”
